Citroën’s Saxo VTS and VTR  have been crowned the UK’s best hatch champion for 2001, taking the title for the fifth year in a row by outselling rivals from Ford, Renault and even Volkswagen.

During the year, the 120hp 1.6i 16V Saxo VTS and the 1.6i Saxo VTR, which saw its power increased to 100hp, captivated the hearts and minds of over 10,500 new buyers, some 1,500 more than in the previous twelve months.

Together with the 75hp 1.4i Furio, the sporty three Saxo's make up one in three of all Saxo sales, contributing towards the virtual cult status that the supermini has attained among younger buyers.  Even recent research's by Max Power magazine have confirmed that Saxo is the UK’s most desired hatch, while What Car? magazine’s ‘Used Car of the Year 2001’ awards have just bestowed the title of best hot hatch on the VTR.
